The part and the whole

A collection ranging from chair to stool by combining different elements (legs, armrests, seats), only maintaining the backrest in common, made of steam-bent solid wood carved by NC machine.
This product was devised as a “system” that includes production processes, product economy, and design.

Details are the main feature of this system, such as the backrest, characterized by the strong contrast between the sharp top and the smoothness of the body. The wood grain emphasizes the tridimensionality of its curves designed to give great comfort and appreciate the richness of solid wood.

While many mass-production pieces of furniture are cold and inorganic for project management reasons, wooden furniture can express a warmer and smoother feeling.
We aimed to synthesize all this into a potentially universal design.

部分と全体

スチームで曲げ、マシーン加工によって削りだされた笠木を共通部材としてアーム、シート、レッグ、スレッド等のエレメントを組み合わせる事で椅子からカウンタースツールまで様々なタイプに展開する事を可能にしたコレクション。
生産行程、経済性、デザインのバランスを包括的に捉え”システム”として考案されたプロジェクトです。

彫刻的な笠木、カット面が生むコントラスト、流れるような接合部分の表情など細部にまでディテールにこだわっている。
特に笠木は木材を感じさせない優しい背当たりと湾曲した形状に沿うように立体的に変化する木目が美しく、無垢材の質感とリッチネスを感じ取る事ができる。

産業化が進み、大量生産で生み出される家具は無機質なものが多い中で、木工製品は、一つ一つの木の表情が異なり、その温かみを感じることができるもの。普遍的に使ってもらえるデザインを目指しました。
