T-shaped backrest

Wooden chairs can be fabricated all around the world. But, when you approach such a theme, I think that if you understand the local culture, materials, and techniques – along with the brand philosophy – it is possible to devise a unique design that outstands the market.
Kristalia is a company that develops pieces of furniture with a simple and direct design language; at the same time, it has a graphical and playful young brand identity capable of surprise. Upon Kristalia's request, I wanted to devise a chair with a warm feeling that would feature a simple wooden structure and memorable design at first sight.

TONBO uses a regular chair construction yet features an iconic T-shaped organic backrest that stands out by leaning tangentially on the mellow joints' detail.
This element visually detaches from the other parts, giving a sense of lightness and suspension like a dragonfly softly alighted on a leaf.

木製椅子は世界中のどこでも制作が可能です。このようなテーマに向き合う際、その地域文化や素材の特性、そして技術的特徴を理解すると同時にブランドフィロソフフィーを作品に反映させる事によって独自性のあるプロダクトとなり木製椅子という分野に多様性が生み出せると思っている。
クリスタリア社はシンプルかつ明確な造形言語を持つ製品を開発するメーカーであり、グラフィカルで遊び心があり何かワクワク感を期待させてくれるブランドだ。クリスタリア社より木製椅子の開発依頼を受けた際、木という素材感を活かした温かみのある表情、そして一見すれば記憶に残る造形メッセージを持つ椅子をデザインしようと思った。

TONBOは基本的な木製椅子構造を採用しつつも、まろやかに正接するジョイントディテールによって有機的に浮き上がるアイコニックなT形バックレストが特徴となっている。
椅子の構造性から解放されたバックレストは、あたかもトンボが枝に止まっているような軽やかな表情を生みました。
